Translating 2023

Our members chose TED Talks that inspired them and translated them into Korean. We then reenacted the TED Talks based on their original form and tone to get a better comprehension of what the Talks were about.

DASOM YOU'S TRANSLATING

TED Translating was about translating a TEDx video into our native language; Korean. This was a fun experience, having the chance to explain about how silence can kill you.

YOUJIN SOHN'S TRANSLATING

I translated ‘5 Ways to Listen Better’ by Julian Treasure. I thought the message of this talk was what we needed in our society today. So I figured it would be nice to translate this to Korean and let a wider audience experience the talk. I think the hardest part of this activity was that I had to translate the parts that were meant for humor into Korean and make them sound natural.

ELLA HA'S TRANSLATING

I translated the TED Talk ‘Try something new for 30 days’ by Matt Cults. It tells us how short-term commitments creates memorable experiences, boost one’s confidence and allows them to achieve significant goals. It especially highlights the importance of small, sustainable changes.

SOYOON LEE'S TRANSLATING

My TED translating was about secrets of success and it made me realize what core values I should have as a person.

JUNHYEOK LEE'S TRANSLATING

The TED video ‘The Secrets of Learning a New Language’ caught my eyes which are interest in language. The speaker in that video explained her way to learn other languages such as making her own word cards, trying to watch, or read what she wants in a language she wants to study, and messaging a person who lives in a country where uses the language she wanna try. While I translated the video into Korean, I also realized once again that learning other languages important since I can convey her content which is really significant to Koreans and spread good influence.

HENRY KIM'S TRANSLATING

In ‘TED Translating’, I translated a speech by Andrew Ng: “How AI could empower any business” from English to Korean. While listening to the speech, I was able to understand how AI is perfect for dealing with data, and therefore is the perfect technology for many, if not all, kinds of businesses. While working on the translation, I was able to fully comprehend the ideas and thought processes of the speaker.
