Circles 2023
Our members each chose a TED Talk that he or she was interested in and felt could start meaningful discussions. After watching each Talk, we all went to the white board where we organized and brainstormed ideas and brought up thought-provoking questions.
DASOM YOU'S CIRCLE

After watching <The power of introverts> by Susan Cain, I wanted to share the question I had: Is everyone an ambivert? An ambivert, a person who is outverted but also inverted when meeting new people. I pondered about the characteristics and actions toward people when they are around people they love, and the people they have met for the first time.
YOUJIN SOHN'S CIRCLE

For my TED Circles activity, I chose the TED talk ‘The Danger of a Single Story’ for discussion. After watching the video, I asked the three questions that I prepared which were, ‘How do we get rid of a single story?’, ‘What creates a single story?’, and ‘Is this message still relevant in our society today?’. Some interesting thoughts were shared about ingrained stereotypes that exist in our society.
ELLA HA'S CIRCLE

The TED Talk I chose to discuss with our team is ’There’s more to life than being happy’. We shared our ideas about the purpose of life, happiness, and the 4 pillars for living a meaningful life. I made up a summary for this session: Life is an ongoing process. We should live a humble life, but a good life. I think everything depends on individuals’ priorities. Happiness comes and goes, and this isn’t something wrong. There is a flow in life.
SOYOON LEE'S CIRCLE

My TED Circle was about the contribution of disabled people in society. I think every body has their own special trait that can find a place in the world for the better.
JUNHYEOK LEE'S CIRCLE

My TED circle emphasizes the importance of learning 2nd language and being duolingual. The world become more and more connected as one where people can share their ideas and opinions with others living all over the world. I’m sure that this change causes the rapid development of the earth. That’s why I highlight learning other languages, just one of method for the ultimate purpose of linking more people. There is also my way of making another language as mine so encourage people to try to learn languages.
HENRY KIM'S CIRCLE

I did my ‘TED Circles’ after listening to a speech by a businessman who went into prison for a crime he didn’t commit. His story was very hopeful. Even though he was in a harsh and unfair situation, he accepted the situation and made the best of himself in it. Based on the speech, I made 3 questions and shared it with my teammates. We shared thoughts and conversations about imagining that we were in the same situation, figuring out what acceptance is, and looking for differences between liberty and freedom.
KATIE SHIN'S CIRCLE

People often debate about the true key to success. Are naturally talented people more likely to achieve their goals or the hard working ones? This TED Talk by Angela Duckworth delves deeply into that question scientifically and psychologically. During the process, it introduces the term, "grit": effort that is grueling yet effective. After watching the Talk together, we pondered the trait that grit has that makes people who have it successful and how we could cultivate it within us and the people around us.
